Unlike conventional wisdom, K-beauty is all about pampering, soothing, and hydrating acne-prone skin to help support a healthy skin barrier and allow it to function at its best. Here, our picks for a 3-step skincare routine for acne-prone skin.
“Boosting the skin barrier, gentle exfoliation, and calming inflammation are key.”
For acne-prone skin, keeping your skin cleansed but not stripped is vital. A low pH cleanser will help you do that, and K-beauty has some great ones that are super affordable. (You really should be using an oil cleanser, too, before your foam cleanser, a concept called double cleansing, a basic tenet of K-beauty. To learn more, check out the Acne 5-step routine below.)
A good moisturizer not only softens your skin and provides a protective barrier, it can help treat a number of skin issues with the right formulation. For acne-prone skin, look for ingredients with soothing and antibacterial properties to help calm irritation.
No skincare routine is complete without a good sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 (but preferably higher) that also protects from UVA and UVB rays. (In K-beauty, that means look for the PA+++ sign!) Thankfully, Korean sunscreens are some of the best in the world — they offer light textures and no white cast, so you’ll actually want to wear sunscreen!
