Yeah, we’re the ones obsessed with commas and pull quotes, Centella asiatica and tension pacts. That’s right — we’re your dedicated team of Beautytap editors and writers, and we’re so happy to finally meet you!
We wanted to start off by introducing you to two special members of our K-beauty Squad: Jude Chao from Fifty Shades of Snail and Coco Park of The Beauty Wolf.
Sure, you’ve probably heard of them. After all, Coco wrote the book (literally) on K-beauty with Skin & Tonic’s Kerry Thompson: Korean Beauty Secrets: A Practical Guide to Cutting-Edge Skincare and Makeup. And her beauty blog, The Beauty Wolf, is a must-bookmark resource for great reviews (not to mention the coolest graphics) by a certified esthetician and makeup artist.
And Jude practically needs no introduction. Her blog Fifty Shades of Snail is a K-beauty skincare must-read, and her podcast, The Snailcast, brings together the genius minds of some of the best in K-beauty bloggers: Chel at Holy Snails, Snow at Snow White and the Asian Pear, and Tracy at Fanserviced-B.
Jude and Coco have both joined Beautytap as fanatical product testers contributing editors, so expect to see exclusive articles and product reviews from them on Beautytap.
The latest addition to the K-Beauty Squad is the K-beauty pioneer herself, Sheryll Donerson of The Wanderlust Project. One of the first K-beauty bloggers out there (and arguably one of the first who is a woman of color), Sheryll has been in love with Korean beauty since her time living in South Korea five years ago. She’ll be writing about all sorts of topics, but especially how to make K-beauty work for women of all hair types and skin tones (not just the 21 or 23s among us).
She may have started her career as a lawyer, but Anna found her true calling long before that, while poring over the beauty editorials and skincare how-to’s in teen magazines. Sure, the ladies at the Estée Lauder counter may have scoffed at her when she asked for an eye cream at the age of 16, but hey, she was just ahead of her time. Follow her travels on Instagram at @annanymity.
Jude Chao, Associate Snail Guru (aka Editor at Large)
Jude writes as Fiddy Snails at the K-beauty and skincare blog Fifty Shades of Snail and can be found on Instagram @fiddysnails. Most recently named the ELLE Malaysia Beauty Blogger of the Month for June/July 2017 and one of ELLE Magazine‘s 10 Cool Beauty Bloggers to Watch in 2018, Jude loves ginseng, snail, honey, propolis, and tuna fish kimbap, though she generally doesn’t put the kimbap on her face.
Coco Park, Mother of Ferments (aka Contributing Editor)
Coco is The Beauty Wolf and co-author of the book Korean Beauty Secrets. An international lady of leisure, she is also a certified esthetician who spent well over a decade working as a professional makeup artist. She’s had a lifelong love affair with skincare, makeup, and fried chicken, and from the looks of things, graduated top of her class from Our Lady Of Resting Bitchface. Check her out on Instagram @TheBeautyWolf and you might spy a glimpse of her way too-cute family.
Sheryll Donerson, Chemical Exfoliation Pro (aka Contributing Editor)
Sheryll, the blogger behind The Wanderlust Project, is a Southern California native who has spent the past five years of her life galavanting around Asia. She fell in love with K-beauty as an ESL teacher in S. Korea and now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. She enjoys lifting heavy things, going to Trader Joe’s (and unsuccessfully avoiding those peanut butter cupcakes), tracking steps on her FitBit, and taking photos of her phantom poodle, Sophia Loren-Petrillo.
Leo Louie, Chok-Chok Connoisseur (aka Contributing Editor)
Born in Korea and raised in Washington, Leo is another 20-something member of the Squad that is as committed to his love of skincare as he is to wine and cheese covered snack foods. After working as an educator and trainer in the beauty industry, he joined the team at Beautytap to continue sharing his knowledge and passion for skincare and all things chok-chok. During his free time, he’s been spotted in the wild bingeing Netflix shows, blasting K-pop while playing video games, or (much more rarely) leaving his hovel to venture forth in search of cocktails and Korean BBQ.
Ruth is a 20-something creative with a fixation on black coffee, black boots, and the beautiful black hole that is all things K-beauty. A Southern California native, she loves to share her current skincare favorites and lifestyle inspirations on her Instagram @ruthhlesslyy.
Karachi discovered K-beauty in 2015 and fell wallet-first into the fray. When she’s not binge-watching a TV series or losing herself in a book, she’s creating wish lists of new stuff to try and reading posts by her favorite bloggers. Learning has been a lifelong hobby for her and she truly enjoys geeking out about the amazing things different ingredients can do for skin.
Megan Bursey, Jjimjilbang Convert
Megan hails from South Africa, and is obsessed with beauty, travel and LGBT rights. She cut her teeth as a journalist, writing for the biggest-selling English magazine in her country, before heading to South Korea for a change of scenery. Forever on the move, she always makes time for her skin and the best K-beauty has to offer. Follow her travels on Instagram at @meg______b.
Rebecca Ipe, K-Drama Queen
When not traveling and pestering people of varying ages and histories with impertinent questions for research purposes (yes, it’s legit), Rebecca indulges her passion for narrative by watching Korean dramas (she’s a certified sageuk addict). Her obsession with all things Asian began at the tender age of 5 when her parents moved to Taiwan for a year. Since then she’s travelled and lived in China, India, and South Korea, and spends her face-masking moments planning the next great Asian exploration.
Tracy is a “quality over quantity” word girl fascinated by eagles and life in a small SoCal mountain community. She believes in the now, has written professionally for 30+ years, and worships at the alters of serum and Sulwhasoo.
Taylor Davis, Eczema Warrior
Taylor is a writer in New York City with a passion for Korean beauty and investigative journalism. She enjoys practicing her Spanish, anything matcha, and adding to her gua sha collection.
Jane Wilson-Moses, Laugh Line Defender
Jane takes a relaxed approach to beauty. Snail slime? Yes. Horse oil? Sure. Honey, flowers, and herbs? Bring ‘em on — but one artificial smell and she is OUT. She loves her wrinkles and the sun but has finally conceded that sunscreen’s a good idea. If you ever can’t find her, start your search at the coziest place you can think of. She’s probably there under a blanket with a book.
Miranda Rico, Beauty Traveler & Tteokbokki Obsessive
Miranda is a 22-year-old writer who enjoys spending any and all of her disposable income (and time) on traveling to hunt for undiscovered beauty gems. When she’s not on the search for beauty products, Miranda can be found binge watching Law and Order: SVU and drinking copious amounts of iced tea. You can find her excessive selfie collection, travel diary, and other musings around her hometown of Los Angeles on Instagram @armbar.
Angela Son, Beauty Sleep Obsessor
