Strange thing to get excited about: since I’m purging, there’s no point being super disciplined about trying new products one at a time because I can’t possibly isolate which product caused a breakout. Which means I get to fool around with a new night cream and try sheet masks I’ve been gazing at in my own stash for ages. Hooray!
Aw, man … I can’t find those mystery boxes anymore since the redesign. Are they no longer an option? I really liked paying $50 and getting someone else’s choice of products worth $100! Such a great way of discovering new things, and fun to unbox!
I’m about to use this term for the very first time:
Holy grail. I found one. It’s the seaNtree donkey milk sunscreen … and now I don’t see it on the website anymore! Sending up all my prayers to the skincare gods that it’ll be back soon, because I LOVE this product!
Target! It would only hold a six-pack, which is plenty big enough for a few sheet masks and a vitamin C serum. I saw some larger ones, but I didn’t want anything that would take up much space!
Too funny! Great minds must think alike… I’m about to purchase one because my kitchen refrigerator houses more skincare products than food now. It’s becoming ridiculous… Would you care for some snail serum with your sparking water?? 😉
I don\’t know about y\’all, but I *love* the feeling of watching the dailytap timer count down, waiting to find out what the next deal is, when I\’ve got a cart full of goodies and I\’m just waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger.
Tapisphere, help. I think my next step will be to start a vitamin C serum, but I\’m having trouble finding one I like. I want L-AA for its antioxidant properties and I do not want the formulation to contain niacinamide.
Hello~ I really like Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop! It has 5% of Ascorbic Acid and doesn’t have Niacinamide. It’s been my favorite for awhile now. It’s mild and effective! I hope this helps! 😊
Y\’all, I am not going to double cleanse my neck over the sink. I\’m just not. My neck can make do with micellar water until I\’m in the shower, and that is all.
Right?? I mean, I get it. The neck shows the age, etc. But I *haaaate* having water dripping down my elbows. It’s hard enough to keep the counter dry just washing my face … the neck situation is just no. Good thing I take a shower pretty often. 🙂
Background:
* My skin is chronically dehydrated.
* I\’m pretty sure my skin is also oily.
Mystery:
Why am I only seeing surface oil on my skin now that I\’m hydrating it properly? I never thought I had oily skin because it wasn\’t shiny, but I\’ve always had acne and visible pores. I\’m taking care of my skin now (although I\’m still figuring it out)– and now is when I\’m beginning to shine!
Am I using too many products with occlusive properties? Should I switch to mostly water? And if so … how do I keep all that water *in* my face when my barrier needs so much help?
Oh my gosh, do you have this problem too?? What in the *world*? It doesn’t make sense! My logic brain cannot handle the mystery!!
(fist bump for sensitive/dehydrated/oily)
Yeah, I still haven’t found the answer to no shine. The only time my skin is sort of free of it is when I’ve overdone it with the chemical exfoliants, and in that case I’m in a world of other, worse troubles to even be glad for it. Maybe some day we’ll be able to figure out the mystery.
Update: I wonder if it’s not oil I’m seeing, it’s residue from products. (Also a certain amount of that high-hydration inner glow, which to my Americanized eyes can look like shine.) Sometimes I feel like my skin is sucking all the water out of everything I put on my face and leaving a layer of whatever it can’t absorb on top.
No matter what I do, it’s usually shine-town up in my face as soon as I apply sunscreen, anyway. Up until now, all the matte-effect sunscreens I’ve tried have dried me out horribly, so I’ll take the shine over skin desert and skin cancer any day 😀
As you can see, my highest priorities right now are hydration and barrier repair/soothing. I’m going to put that Eclado Cell Memory Cream (a sample!) into my spreadsheet and rotate it into the routine in a few weeks so I can be certain I know if it’s having an effect … must be so careful about falling for expensive products!
I wish there were a substitute for time and experience. It\’s hilariously difficult to figure out which products are doing what to my face, and it\’s not because I don\’t understand the concept of introducing new products slowly. It\’s because I haven\’t been in skincare world long enough to have done anything slowly.

I just opened the door wearing a Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask – Box of 5 to a neighbor who was looking for some 2x6s. To his credit he didn\’t bat an eye.
