About the product

What Is It:

This lightweight moisturizer helps hydrate and calm acne-prone skin with Centella asiatica leaf water (known as tiger grass for its healing properties — tigers roll around in it when wounded); 70% black bee propolis, a potent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory; and 1% natural BHA. With a non-greasy, mattifying finish great for oily and combination skin, this emulsion balances skin’s oil and moisture levels for a stronger skin barrier. For best results, use with the Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol. Free of parabens, artificial color, artificial flavor, triethanolamine, and phthalate.

Our insight:

Why BHA? Our acids queen, Sheryll, says:

BHAs (or beta hydroxy acids) are a type of chemical exfoliant that works both inside and outside of the pores to help you achieve clear, smooth, and firm skin. Unlike AHAs, BHAs are oil soluble, so that means that they can penetrate through the oil in your skin and get underneath the surface to really clear out your pores. They are kind of like a chemical vacuum that sucks all of the gunk out of your face. This is why BHAs are so great for whiteheads, acne, and blackheads — they literally get in the pore and work to dissolve all of that nonsense. With continued use, BHAs can balance out oily skin and reduce the amount of acne, whiteheads, and blackheads that you have.

How to use:

After cleansing and applying toner, apply the emulsion onto your face and follow with face cream or sunscreen.
(For full BHA action, we recommend pairing the emulsion with the brand’s Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol! However, if you’re just starting out with BHA or other skincare acids, we recommend starting slow. Only use one acid product and start out using it once a week, building once your skin builds its strength. Learn more about acids here.)
