About the product

What Is It:

What’s the #1 tenet in the K-Beauty bible? Thou shalt protect thy moisture barrier!
Whether you’re a longtime K-beauty hobbyist or new to Korean skincare, there’s one thing you should be doing: using a pH balanced, slightly acidic water-based cleanser for your second cleanse, and PURITO Defence Barrier pH Cleanser is just what you need.
If you’re looking for a gentle, effective, well formulated cleanser that will keep the skin’s pH at the ideal 4.5 to 6 pH range, the Defence Barrier pH Cleanser comes in at a perfect 5.5 to do exactly that. It removes water-based dirt and debris without stripping your skin, all while maintaining the moisture barrier of your skin.
What’s the difference between Purito Defence Barrier pH Cleanser and other high pH products? Highly alkaline soap or cleansers strip the skin’s moisture barrier, resulting in irritation, sensitivity and dryness. That creates the perfect storm for breakouts! In sharp contrast, Purito Defence Barrier’s low pH formula is made with healing Centella asiatica, tea tree oil, royal jelly extract, and hydrolyzed collagen. The low pH formulation along with the soothing, skin beneficial ingredients helps to control oil, boost healing, fight bacteria, hydrate, and soothe skin as it removes every last bit of residue from the day. You’re left with clean soft skin, and most importantly, your moisture barrier intact!

Our insight:

Breaking out? Reactive? Dry and flaky? If you’ve tried everything and nothing’s worked, it just may be your cleanser. A water-based cleanser with a pH of about 5.5 is a must for anyone looking to make a real difference in your skin. Find out why here.
How do you know what the pH of your cleanser is? It’s pretty easy! Just follow our step-by-step guide here.

Brand info:

Deriving its name from the English word “purity” and the Chinese character for “soil” (土), PURITO wants to be open and transparent about what its customers are putting on their skin. To that end, they utilize pure and natural ingredients derived from the earth, ensuring that their ingredients are EWG Green (safe) and toxin/chemical-free whenever possible. Aware of the “green-washing” going on in the beauty industry, PURITO aims to be open and honest with its customers, providing products that are truly natural and safe, even for a child’s skin. One example is their use of purified water instead of extract water, which can sometimes irritate sensitive skin types.
PURITO also doesn’t believe that fancy packaging or expensive marketing or spokesmodels are indicative of a great skincare product, so they spend their money on the formulation and ingredients, not “appearance.” They strive to use eco-friendly packaging, they never test on animals, and they believe in making great skincare affordable so everyone can use it.

It's a basic low pH cleanser. I'm not in love with it, but honestly, I'm not in love with most of the face cleansers I buy, so I think that's OK. Non-irritating + good price = probable re-purchase.

Having used this for about 3 months now, I think it's safe to say that this has made a good impact on my combo-dry skin. I use it as a second cleanser after oil cleansing, and I really see a difference on days where I've been wearing makeup.
I feel like it cleans my skin of all the leftover gunk without being super drying, or leaving any weird stickiness. It doesn't make any of my spots or acne sore or flakey either.👍
It doesn't hurt that it comes in a great big tube either - definitely a good value option. The only... Read more

It was really hard to admit but this cleanser pushed Cosrx' Low pH Cleanser off the 1st place of my favourite cleansers in a matter of days.
Purito's cleanser is the real deal. It's gentle to your skin, the scent isn't strong and the ingredients are really, really great. Also, this brand is cruelty free and super affordable. What's there not to like?

I was deciding between this and cosrx low pH cleanser and from reading reviews on Reddit, I went with this one because some people felt cosrx was drying. I'm glad I got this one! It's a great price for how much you get and it lathers really nicely. I use this as second cleanser or if I haven't worn makeup, my only cleanser. It smells light tea tree scent and my skin feels clean afterwards, no residue. My mom tried it and liked it as well! So I'm going to purchase for her too!

I started using this recently after finishing up my tube of COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. So far I find that they perform about the same -- much better than high-pH cleansers, but there are still times that my skin feels a bit dry and tight after cleansing. I think my face just hates cleansers ;) and if it's anything less than 100% hydrated and healthy, it objects to any cleanser! For that reason, I usually just use cleansing water in the morning and then full cleansing at night. I will keep experimenting with other cleansers for now... Read more

This cleanser is great. It gets the job done and I find that it does not leave my skin feeling as dry as the Cosrx low pH cleanser. I use 3 low pH cleansers and kinda rotate they them. I use this, the Cosrx low pH cleanser, and the Innisfree blueberry low pH one. I cannot explain the difference switching to low pH has made for my skin but the radical difference has been with my daughters skin. I am just finishing her trial period on the Innisfree cleanser and she starts this one tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed... Read more

This cleanser does the job and is a nice alternative to Cosrx's low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. It's not drying and works relatively the same as Cosrx. I actually only bought this because it was temporarily cheaper than the Cosrx Good Morning Gel Cleanser by 2 bucks on Amazon.

The only differences I experienced is the the Purito gel cleanser is just sliiiiiiiiightly thinner in texture and it smells like clean dirt. So if the strong tea tree oil scent of Cosrx's Good Morning Gel Cleanser is turning you off, then definitely run with Purito. Also, Cosrx is pretty vague... Read more

Ah! I love this cleanser! (Coming from a person with pretty dry skin who doesnt generally use anything but oil cleansers!) I was suprised to find it not only DID NOT dry out my skin but I needed only a 1-2 pearl sized drops for my face.(with the amount of the bottle Im pretty stoked to see how ling it last but should be a while!) Ive been using for a week now every morning as i use pretty emollient moisturizers at night.
