Très Sheet! Get This Modern Marie Antoinette Look With a Sheet Mask & a Stick
Perhaps the ultimate in K-beauty-meets-French-beauty, contributing editor Coco Park takes inspiration from one of Oerbeua's sheet masks to create a makeup look that's rococo-chic yet wholly modern.
I take inspiration from everywhere, but I can't say I've taken inspiration from sheet mask packaging. Oerbeua One-Step Mask changed all that.
You might have seen them on Instagram. The Oerbeua One-Step Mask packages are adorned with different classic works of art, depending on which kind you get. I got a beautiful bouquet of sheets including the Hold Me Tight Rosy Energy Nourishing Mask, which has a lovely portrait of Marie Antoinette, pre-beheading and at the height of her sensualist lifestyle, of course.
Speaking of sensualist lifestyles, I'm also currently bingeing the Hulu series Harlots, which is set in the brothels of 18th century England. Two extremes of hedonism, one similar beauty look. I'm slightly obsessed with the monochrome rosy lips and cheeks seen on both the ancient royal portraits and the harlots of the 1700s. The flushed pinks and blooming rosebud lips are everything right now, and the fact that this is a beauty look that's been popular since antiquity speaks of its timeless primal beauty.
Here's the trailer for Harlots if you're interested:
After a masking session with the Oerbeua One-Step Mask — which, by the way, is a budget delight that left me with very glowy, bouncy skin — I broke out another goody I happened to receive, the Snou Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek. I hadn't heard of this brand before, but it instantly reminded me of Milk Makeup's Lip + Cheek stick. I received my Snou Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek in the shade Peach Pink, which honestly isn't what I consider peach at all. Maybe ever so slightly if we're talking the pinkest, ripest part of a peach's skin, but nothing at all orange-y. This is a pure rose pink if I had to describe it in my own words. It's honestly just a lovely classic shade.
The stick has a creamy lipstick-like texture and applies extremely vibrantly if you apply it straight from the stick. I did some experimenting and had success applying it with an old BB cream sponge, with a brush, and even with my fingers. My personal favorite way to do it was to apply dabs straight from the stick and then blend it out with a synthetic stippling blush brush. It left a vibrant but not full-on I-just-got-punched-in-the-face look.
I then lined my lips with Etude House Play 101 stick in shade #8, which is a near skin-toned color on my complexion. Next I applied the Snou Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek onto my lips with my fingers. I patted it on and then topped it with a dusting of Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder for that matte look that I love from the show Harlots.
Y'all, it was so so so pretty. I skipped liner since I'm going for the oldest of old school looks and just applied a tubing mascara and quickly dusted a pinky shade into my lid crease (not that I have much of one as my eyes are hooded) and under my eyes. I then did the most glamorous thing I could think of and leashed up my dog and took him for a walk while I caught Pokemon. Hey, I've never said I led a charmed life.
Anyway, it was good conditions to take this look out for a real world test run because it was high summer, high noon, and high heat. We had a languid walk around the park, around my borough, and had many successful Pokemon battle raids. All in all, not a bad way to spend an early afternoon. When I returned close to four hours later, most of my lips had slid off, but my cheeks were still going strong. So I wouldn't say this is a long-lasting product for the lips, but it definitely puts in work as a cheek color.
Honestly the whole look is so effortless to achieve that throwing this little chubby stick in your purse and reapplying every so often is a totally uncomplicated breeze! I'm totally sold on Snou Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek and the Oerbeua One-Step Masks! Talk about $25 well spent in the name of classic beauty. So invite your squad over, put together a charcuterie board and some champagne and binge Harlots or even Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.
It's up to you if you want to go more fille du joie or more regal ;)
Have you ever tried the Oerbeua One-Step Hold Me Tight Rosy Energy Nourishing Mask or Snou Beauty Creamy Lip and Cheek? What'd you think?
