Say buh-bye to watery lip stains of yesteryear that can dry out your lips and take a 10-step routine on its own to remove. The newest Korean lip products offer creamy, luxe textures in addition to staying power.
Lipstick, lip gloss, lip tint, lip balm: These products are the core of my beauty and makeup routine. You know the quote, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile?” Well, I’m never fully dressed without my lip products.
And up until recently, I kinda shunned a lot of Korean lip products. Have you ever tried one of the old school lip tints? The ones that literally stain your lips with this insanely drying coat of red or pink or purple liquid that takes a special point makeup remover to get off? Then your lips are just raw, dry, and scrubbed within every inch of life and the tint is STILL on there? Yeah ... no.
Korean lip tints (and a lot of K-beauty lip products in general) are innovative BECAUSE they never come off. You can eat an entire pizza, run a marathon, kiss your lover, sing at a noraebang, eat fried chicken and beer, go to the Korean spa … and your lip tint will still be there. Yes, they might be ridiculously hard to get off, but it’s a small price to pay for not having to constantly re-apply your lip products.
But now, K-beauty has come up with some lip products that have both staying power and pigmentation without the drying, flaking, hard-to-get-off mess. Instead of lip tints, we’ve seen the rise of creamy lipsticks, matte liquid lipsticks, and even glittery glosses. We praise the innovations coming out of that small peninsula! Let’s talk about my faves.
Romand Liquid Lipstick Lip Driver
These liquid lipsticks are a very big mood. They come in five easy-to-wear shades, including a dusty rose shade called Don’t Stop that is practically made for me. They have a soft matte finish and are made to not lose pigmentation over time. But you don’t have to worry about these lipsticks being like a layer of paint on your lips — just use a bit of oil cleanser to remove it!
Hera Rouge Holic Exceptional
Listen. You want luxury? Hera will give you luxury. Their Rouge Holic Exceptional is pricey so more of a treat yo’self type purchase, but the pigmentation? The rich texture? THE PACKAGING?! We have decided to stan.
3CE Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color in Chicful
Korean lip products tend to fall into the same color categories: pinks, reds, oranges. You rarely see nude brown shades or really deep, rich tones, but 3CE is that girl. Their Mood Recipe Matte lipsticks feature a matte formula that isn’t drying. Instead, thanks to intense pigmentation, you only need a swipe or two. And the shade Chicful? It’s a super unique, dark brown-red shade (that’s also Brown girl friendly!). So, so, so good.
Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense
The lip tints I’m used to are super liquidy, almost like a watery serum. But these lip tints from Mamonde are moisturizing, intensely pigmented crayon pencils. They feel like literal velvet on the skin and won’t cling on to dry spots. My favorite shades? Velvet Scarlet and Blooming Rose.
