Your Big Event Beauty Countdown: When to Do What to Look Your Best

Sometimes we’ve got weeks before that big wedding, holiday gala, high school reunion. And then sometimes it’s a last minute deal where we’re scrambling to look our best. Here, we’ve got you covered with our big event beauty countdown, whether you’ve got weeks or (yikes!) just 24 hours.

The holidays are coming, and you know what that means?!

Parties! Galas! Events! Places to go and people to see! Food to eat! It’s honestly the best time of the year.

And you know, with all of the parties and fun events going on, you gotta make sure you are looking your best so you can slay each and every party like the bad bih that you are. I’ve come up with a plan to help you glow, no matter how many days out you are from your big event. Let’s take a look, shall we?

14 days from the Big Event

Two weeks out from your big event, you should start using a very gentle exfoliator about three to four times a week. Choose your weapon wisely — a gentle BHA is going to help unclog the dirt, debris, and dead skin cells from deep within your pores, while an AHA is going to help smooth that top layer of skin. When used together, you create an acne fighting combo that will reduce breakouts while giving you a party-ready glow. My fave options? The cult favorite COSRX BHA Liquid with the coordinating AHA Liquid. A vibe!

7 days and counting

So now it’s about a week out from your event. Your face is all nice and glowy and exfoliated, but you know, skin isn’t just about the glow. We need to get that plump, bouncy feeling, and we can do that easy peasy lemon squeezy with some hyaluronic acid. Why hyaluronic acid? You know what happens when you chug a giant glass of water and you can feel your stomach literally expanding? Well, hyaluronic acid is kinda like that giant glass of water, but on your face. It holds up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water, so when you apply it to your skin, it “fills out” those fine lines and plumps your skin. Magic!

I’m going to recommend another COSRX favorite for you — the COSRX Hydrium Triple Hyaluronic Moisture Ampoule. It has three different types of hyaluronic acid, each with a different weight, so one penetrates deeply into the skin, the other in the middle layer, and the third at the top layer. Who knew getting plump skin was so easy?

3 days — yikes!

Say this with me three times: Vitamin C. Vitamin C. Vitamin C. Yes, on the third day out from your big event, you should add some type of vitamin C product to your routine. I’ll tell you from firsthand experience, whenever I use vitamin C, it’s as if a unicorn personally touched my skin. Vitamin C is not only going to brighten your skin and give it an otherworldly glow, it’s also going to promote collagen production, so your skin is bouncy and plump. One of my favorites is the Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster.

1 day before D-day

If you’ve only got one day before your big event, it is not the time to start using a new product or use a peel or do anything drastic. The best course of action is to douse your face in sheet masks. Like … all the sheet masks. Sheet masks deliver a megadose of hydration and good-for-your-skin ingredients in a very short amount of time, and the best part is, you can just keep throwing them on one right after the other.

When I go on a “getting ready for a party” sheet masking extravaganza, I like to start with a thin, watery mask, something like the Papa Recipe Bombee Fruitables Yellow Squeeze Brightening Mask. Wear it for 15 minutes, tap in the essence, do a little spritz of mist, and then go in with a creamy and/or oil-based mask. I love the JayJun Anti-Dust Whitening Mask for a creamy, moisturizing mask, and then for the grand finale, I like to use the Leaders Insolution Oil Pocket Mask.

And now all the bases are covered, and you can head to the party like the glowing boss you are!
