The Review: Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence

Do you really need another essence? For your skin 911s, absolutely. How the Hanyul Artemisia Essence may become your BFF for your next skin SOS.

It's not often that a K-beauty product comes along and lives up to its overly exaggerated name, but when it does, I need to tell the world. Enter Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence.

I've pretty much perfected my skincare routine at this point, or so I thought. I was thrilled at where my skin was: bright, glowy, dewy, all that jazz. Somewhere between the L-ascorbic acid powder and bakuchiol, I developed some sort of dermatitis around my nose. It was bumpy, itchy, and frankly, ugly. I was so annoyed because aside from that little slip-up, my skincare routine was seriously working for me. My skin looked better than it had in a long time, and damn it, I wanted to keep things the way they were. For two months I did everything I could to baby the area and nothing worked. I was getting itchier, bumpier, and my skin was seriously pissed off. Desperate to try something else before giving up altogether and eliminating everything one by one, I reached for the Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence I had received recently and thought, “why not?” Before I get into the results, let me tell you a little bit about the product itself.

Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence

What’s in it

To start, if you want a quick primer on artemisia, aka mugwort, please read my girl Sheryll's piece here. Just to quickly catch you up, mugwort has insane levels of antioxidants as well as serious antibacterial properties. As Sheryll says, it's comparable to vitamin C and tea tree as far as benefits go. It's highly effective on acne and irritation, which is exactly where it came in clutch for me.

I've tried other mugwort products before and did really dig the results, but nothing was really hugely game-changing. I did notice the brightness and enjoyed the soothing feeling, but again, nothing that made me lose my mind. Where I suspect Hanyul differentiates itself from the pack is its 100%, aged-three-years-to-perfection artemisia. Kind of like letting your tea steep for a long time to get a nice strong brew, this stuff must be more powerful than its peers.

And that's it, by the way, that's the whole ingredients list: 100% 3-year-old artemisia. With Hanyul you're getting pure, uncut results. I know I sound like a B-movie cocaine dealer, but trust me on this one, this stuff is legit.

The results

So back to my results! I don't want to beat around the bush. Let me just tell you that this essence made all the difference in the world. By making one small change in my routine (replacing my May Coop Raw Sauce for the Hanyul Miracle Relief Essence) my very stubborn dermatitis slowly faded and eventually disappeared completely. It took about a month, but gone was the ugly “I'm either a Victorian alcoholic or have a perpetual cold” redness under my nose! I was floored; it really was a miracle!

How to use

How do I use it? Right after my actives. In the morning it goes on right after my vitamin C powder + toner concoction I make, and at night it goes on right after I wash my face or right after I put on my BHA, which I alternate using nightly. By the way, I like to apply this essence using the COSRX Silky Touch Skin Pack Cotton — the wavy shape is perfect for getting into weird nose crevice contours and just works great in general for all my liquid products.

Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence retails for slightly more than some budget mugwort options, but honestly given its performance, it's worth every penny. I foresee this being a permanent addition to my routine, and I don't see myself parting ways with it, especially given the harsh winter that's around the corner. If you're struggling with any kind of irritation I urge you to give this one a try — it totally worked for me!

Have you tried the Hanyul Artemisia Miracle Relief Essence or any other artemisia/mugwort products? What did you think? Hype or HG?
