Tips for Buying Last-Minute Beauty Gifts Anyone Would Appreciate

Scrambling for gifts at the eleventh hour? Look no further than the world of beauty — just make sure it’s the right kind of beauty. Here, some last-minute beauty gifts that’ll please almost anyone.

You know the feeling: You’re exchanging gifts with your loved ones in just a few days, and you still have some names to cross off your list. Beauty products make great presents, but everyone has different tastes and needs, which can complicate things. Luckily, certain types of products are almost universally appreciated! Hopefully, these tips will help you zip through the rest of your holiday list.

As someone who is passionate about beauty and self-care, it’s always tempting to gift skincare, makeup, hair, and body products — especially when I’m running out of time, as they’re easily accessible both online and in stores. But unless you know the recipient’s exact skin type, hair type, and concerns, it can be difficult to pick something out for them. Here is what I’ve learned over the past decade or so of beauty gift-giving.

Fragrances are difficult to choose for other people

Of course, if you know exactly which scent the person wears, then by all means, grab one of the many holiday sets featuring that particular fragrance, and call it a day. But otherwise, it’s nearly impossible to guess what type of perfume someone will like — not to mention how it will smell on them. A fun alternative: fragrance discovery sets that include minis of several different ones. This way, the giftee can explore and potentially commit to a full-size bottle later.

Focus on hydration and brightening in skincare

These are two pretty common wants when it comes to skincare, regardless of skin type. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C are safe bets when it comes to moisturizers, mists, and serums. And there’s always good old snail mucin!

Lip balm is always a good idea

Who doesn’t need lip balm or an overnight lip mask? Unlike with lipstick and lip tints, gifting conditioning lip products and scrubs doesn’t involve choosing a color that will suit the person using them. They’re great as stocking stuffers, too, and you’ll find many sets featuring both a lip balm and lip scrub around this time of year.

Who doesn’t need hand cream?

Hand cream may not be the type of product people usually splurge on, so receiving a luxurious formula in a comforting fragrance is usually appreciated. Why not opt for a set? Hand cream also makes a great hostess gift.

Head to the mask section

Wash-off masks and sheet masks of all kinds make wonderful presents: They’re fun and come in a wide variety, often featuring festive and colorful packaging, making them easily giftable, indeed.

Highlighters and highlighting palettes are usually safe bets

Give the gift of (extra) glow! Who wouldn’t want to add a bit more light to their face, especially during the holidays? There are many universally flattering shades out there, and some highlighting palettes are true objects of beauty. I, for one, would be delighted to find any number of them under the tree.

Keep an eye out for cute accessories

Who could resist a cute set of brushes, a facial roller, or a new headband to use with those masks I mentioned earlier? A compact mirror also makes a nice present.

Minis are fun

Not only are minis a great way to try out new skincare, makeup, hair care, and body products, they’re also super cute and practical when traveling. You’ll find them in abundance during the holidays; assemble a few deluxe travel versions of products you’ve loved or are excited about for some awesome last-minute beauty gifts.

Bath products FTW

A nice soak in the tub with a festive bath bomb, luxurious bubble bath, or chic bath salts is an enticing proposition even for the most hardcore shower fans. And it’s so nice to receive a gift that encourages you to enjoy some relaxation and self-care once the holiday craze subsides!
