Hungover? Don’t Look Like It With These Beauty Tips

It’s happened to the best of us — too much fun the night before = a very bad look the morning after. Here, some quick hangover beauty tips so you don’t look as bad as you may feel.

Raise your hand if you’ve gone out on a Friday night after work? Happy hour turns into dancing and karaoke at a bar (and more drinks), and before you know it, you’re stumbling home after a Lyft ride and you fall asleep on your couch. But you totally forgot you have Saturday brunch plans, and when you wake up, you take a look at yourself in the mirror and OOOOH GIRL. Your eyes are bloodshot, your lips are dry and cracked, your hair is oily, and on top of all that, you have a raging headache.

Instead of canceling (which we’re not doing in 2020, okay), I want to give you some helpful tips to get your life together after a long night of drinking.

1. Get your life together BEFORE you go to bed

Probably the most important step of making sure you’re not a hot mess in the AM is attempting to get it together before you go to bed. So, this means removing your makeup properly, washing your face, and slathering on a sleeping mask. If you know you’re planning on partying hard, set up your nighttime skincare routine products on your nightstand (this is one of the few times I recommend using face wipes) so you can do your routine in your bed. Going to bed in your makeup is a recipe for dull, congested skin, so avoid it at all costs!

2. Mask your life away

One of the biggest issues with being hungover is that you’re terribly dehydrated, and it definitely shows in your skin. You gotta get that hydration back in, and the best and easiest way is to throw on a sheet mask. My favorite thing to do is to wash my face, use a toner, generously spritz my face with a mist, and then apply my sheet mask. Bonus points — put it in the fridge the night before. There is nothing better than a cool sheet mask on your face when you’re feeling a bit gross.

3. Throw on some eye patches

I don’t know about you, but my eyes are always incredibly puffy after a night out of too much fun. I recommend putting on some eye patches that will hydrate your skin and relieve some of your puffiness. To get a two-in-one deal, put on your eye patches underneath your sheet mask.

4. A massage goes a long way

If your whole face is puffy and you need some relief ASAP, consider giving your face a li’l massage while you apply your serums or moisturizer. The most important thing to remember is to massage your face in a sweeping motion. Start from the center of your face (the nose and cheek area) and gently massage in an outward motion. Then you can move on to your forehead, using two fingers to apply light pressure in that same sweeping outward motion. And finally, move towards your chin and jawline. This can also help relieve some of the tension headache you might be experiencing!

5. Red lipstick and black mascara

By now, your skin should have some semblance of a glow and the puffiness should have gone down, too. The absolute last thing I want to do when I’m hungover is my makeup, but I always opt for a bold, bright red lipstick and black mascara. Red lipstick is the ultimate power move — it shows the world, “Yes, I have it together!” even though you might be feeling like crap. And black mascara makes your eyes look more vibrant and awake. Throw on some sunglasses, and you’re ready to head out to brunch with your friends.
