Skincare for Your Monthly Cycle: Rael Beauty

You know how your skin simply glows the week after your period? That’s second week skin, and natural feminine products brand Rael Beauty is aiming to get you that glow every week of the year.

What if I told you that there was such a thing as freeze-dried hyaluronic acid that you simply mix with a serum of your choice to create your very own, super hydrating product? And then what if I told you that said freeze-dried hyaluronic acid was a part of a recent skincare launch that’s actually designed and formulated to be in tune with your monthly cycle? AND THEN what if I told you that said skincare brand uses K-beauty innovation combined with clean ingredients (aka no toxic, irritating stuff over here!)? Would you think I was talking about a unicorn? Well, it’s real, or should I say, Rael (insert comedy drums here).

So, what is Rael?

At Rael, their mission is to make affordable, natural, and organic cotton pads, feminine hygiene products, and now, skincare, all designed to take care of your needs throughout every part of your cycle. The company was launched in 2017 by three women co-founders: Aness An, Binna Won, and Yanghee Paik, three Korean American women who noticed a lack of natural feminine care in the market.

Their brand started off with natural, organic cotton pads, tampons, and panty liners and then moved on to feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, heating patches (my FAVE!), and underwear. My first experience with Rael was seeing their products in Target and going “hmm … this sounds interesting, let me Google.” After reading their mission, I was sold.

Second week skin

Rael’s skincare products are designed to help balance, soothe, and calm your skin during all parts of your cycle. As for me, my skin is always SO good the week after my period ends, all the way up until about a week to four days before my period starts. During that PMS phase, it’s not only the hormonal acne flares that bother me but the excess oil production combined with weirdly dull skin. Even if I manage to not have acne at that time, my skin always looks a mess. And that’s where Rael says their products come in.

Each product in their collection is formulated to give you “second week skin,” that sweet spot after you finish your cycle where you have the best skin. The collection starts off with the Miracle Patch Set, a set that includes two packages of hydrocolloidal patches and one package of microneedling healing patches that deposit the acne-fighting ingredients (in this case, antibacterial tea tree leaf oil and salicylic acid) straight into your pimple. Other treatment products include a quad of sheet masks and a spot corrector.

The Rael skincare routine

Next, we move on to the skincare routine products. You can buy each product individually, or special 3-, 5-, and 7-step sets that make your routine super easy. There are two cleansers: The Daily Detox Oil-to-Foam Cleanser, and the Reset Button Calming Cica Cleansing Water. The Daily Detox is designed to remove all traces of sunscreen, oil, dirt, and other impurities with a gentle foam, while the Reset Button is a first step cleanser that you use to remove makeup. Then, there is the Daily Zen Balancing toner, designed to prep and balance your skin for all of your next steps; Good Chemistry, a lush, antioxidant rich serum; and Daily Restoration, a nourishing gel cream that the brand says is equivalent to drinking eight glasses of water a day. We love to see it!

But by far, the most innovative and exciting product is the Moisture Melt Snowball Hyaluronic Acid Concentrate. It’s the freeze-dried hyaluronic acid concentrate that melts into your serum of choice, giving it a turbo boost of hydration. It’s so potent, you only need to use it two to three times a week! Let me tell you, as my skin begins to get drier the older I get, I definitely need this in my life.
