8 Beauty Trends for 2020 to Jump on Now (Spoiler Alert: Get Ready to Shine)

From the return of lip glass to a final farewell to matte (for now), here is our take on the best 2020 beauty trends for the new year.

New Year, new me, new beauty trends to follow. Twenty-nineteen brought us cut creases, mega-long lashes, blinding highlight … but at the same time brought us a cleaner, more streamlined approach to skincare. Wanna know what beauty trends are in store for 2020? Keep reading!

1. Move over basic toners, cream skin is here!

So, you know in Korea they call hydrating toners “skin,” right. Well, take that hydrating toner and combine it with an ultra-luxurious, ultra-nourishing cream, and BOOM, you get cream skin, a multi-use toner that nourishes, hydrates, and makes your skin feel like … well, creamy, buttery goodness.

2. Hop in kids, we’re saving the planet!

I predict sustainability is going to be one of the biggest, if not THE biggest beauty trend of 2020. Expect more recyclable, reusable packaging, companies investing in low impact/low carbon shipping, and a general wave of “less is more.” Planet Earth deserves!

3. Matte skin is OVER, say hello to the glow

I, for one, was super grateful to see more glowy, natural looking foundations on the market in 2019, and I think the trend will continue into 2020. We’re over that unnatural, super matte look, honey, it’s time to look like a glazed donut all year long.

4. The return of lip gloss

Remember that period of time between 2016 and 2019 where we all wore incredibly drying matte lipsticks? Well, I think those days are over because I’ve been seeing the girls embrace a glossy look for months now. I went to M.A.C recently to buy a clear lip glass and they were actually sold out! Yay for gloss!

5. Ring ring, the ’80s are calling, and they are here for the neons and pastels

Towards the end of 2019, I saw a big uptick in neon and pastel eyeliners and shadows. I think it was partly due to Euphoria’s impact, but I expect to see more lime green liner looks in the future.

6. Blurred lines … or lips

Yes, Korea is definitely the OG when it comes to the whole blurred lip trend, but it seems like the U.S. market is finally catching up. Drugstore knockout brand NYX has a Dazed & Diffused Blurring Lipstick out already, with other brands slowly releasing their take on the trend.

7. Clean nail polish — finally!

Indie nail polish brands have long been on the clean-green train, but major brands like Sally Hansen are finally catching up. Expect to see more drugstore brands embracing that paraben-, formaldehyde-, and camphor-free life.

8. They’re Swarovski crystals, girl!

Nail art is having a moment again (thank goodness), but one of the biggest 2020 beauty trends is crystal embellishments. I was looking on YesStyle the other day, and one of the biggest new categories was a treasure trove of glittery diamonds, stars, and other shapes that you can glue to your nails for a bling-bling moment. Get your life!
