This sexy new trend is worth trying!
If you’ve found yourself considering a new hairstyle, we have the perfect suggestion...
Curtain Bangs.
That’s right, this cut, which can work on a variety of different hair types and styles, is having a real moment. Even if you don’t recognize the name, you’ve definitely seen curtain bangs in action. From Kaley Cuoco’s character in The Flight Attendant, to celebs like Camila Cabello and Rihanna rocking them, curtain bangs have made quite the entrance.
To find out how to get this alluring style and tips for maintaining the look, Beautytap spoke with Helen Reavey, celebrity-loved stylist and founder of the brand Act+Acre.
A Universally Flattering Style
If you’re someone who experiences a lot of trepidation when it comes to trying out new trendy hairstyles, we have some good news for you — curtain bangs can work on all face shapes.
"Curtain bangs are amazing,” says Reavey. “They’re a great way to change up your hair without a drastic cut or dye. I love them because they’re universally flattering and are ideal for framing.”
And that’s exactly what they do: they frame the face. Often paired with a middle part, curtain bangs create a taper that arches downward towards the eyebrows. That said, if you want to draw attention to other points on your face, say your cheeks or jawbones, you can start the bangs there.
How To Cut Curtain Bangs
While cutting your bangs on your own is not always advisable, this style is actually easy to accomplish. Unless you have some successful prior experience, we do, however, suggest seeing a pro. Reavey suggests pulling the amount of hair you want to cut as bangs down to the front of your face. From there, pull the hair into a triangle and gently cut it into a V-shape starting at the nose level.
How To Style Curtain Bangs
Styling does require a wee bit of maintenance, but curtain bangs are worth it. Luckily for us, Reavey actually has this exact hairstyle, so she explained how she works with her own bangs.
“When I style my curtain bangs, I gather a triangle section at the very front of my hair and blow-dry it forward using a Moroccanoil® Round Brush,” she says. “Then, I carefully tuck each side behind my ears and flat clip them to keep them in place, creating the shape and curve I’d like to see. After the hair dries, the curtain bangs should stay in place.”
In this video, you can see how Reavey styles her own curtain bangs while using a flatiron on dry hair:
