Vegan, cruelty-free and easy to use, expect fuller, lush-looking brows in the comfort of your home.

A friend once told me that eyebrows aren't meant to be twins, more like siblings. Similar enough that you know they are related, while not stressing about making them perfectly matched.

I made the joke that one of mine must be adopted, as there are zero similarities between these face caterpillars of mine. Then I probably did that thing where you wet the end of your fingertips and use them to smooth your brows.

Turns out, she was right. Only two percent of people have perfectly symmetrical features. Something to do with evolution and the ability to fight parasites, apparently.

Longing for Perfect Arches

That said, I have spent years in pursuit of eyebrows that are at least close cousins. A search that sent me to stencils and face tape but stopped just shy of microblading because I can’t lie still that long (or commit TBH).

Still, I wanted to know what my brows were capable of. What was I missing out on?

Beautiful Brows at Home

Enter Elevate Brows, the DIY Eyebrow Lamination Kit from Lash Artisan. A simple, safe-to-use system that is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free AND I don’t have to leave my house?!

I. Am. In.

So, what exactly is eyebrow lamination? Basically, it’s a chemical straightener for your brows. A solution is applied to the hair to soften the follicle, making it more malleable so that it can be combed into the desired shape.

If you have wonky brows like me, where the growth is sparse in some places and mad scientist wild in others, lamination gives you the power to tame what you’ve got, allowing you to comb it flat and fill in the gaps, creating the appearance of uniform fullness.

Lash Artisan DIY Eyebrow Lamination Kit

Beauty Visionary

Brow lamination, like lash extensions, used to be within the sole purview of specialists like Michelle Bong. She was one of the first technicians to bring premium lashes to North America when she started in 2011.

She’s the owner of Lust For Lashes Salon in Toronto and the founder of Lash Artisan, a full-service pro shop delivering the latest lashing tools, accessories and education to industry professionals. “Our goal,” says Bong, “is to help the lash artists create their best lash life by showing them how our products could help them create a better flow and a better outcome.”

Covid put a serious kink in that goal, obviously. No one was getting their lashes or their brows done at a salon – especially in Toronto – so Lash Artisan leveraged their knowledge of the industry to develop lash and brow products we could use at home.

Easy to Use

Elevate Brows is a single use kit that comes in a recyclable ombré tube. Inside you’ll find everything you need to laminate your brows along with very clear instructions and a QR code that links you to a step-by-step video tutorial if you get stuck.

There are three solutions marked LIFT, NEUTRALIZE and CONDITION, to be applied in consecutive steps, each left on for six minutes and then wiped away. Easy, breezy.

Just be sure to stay away from any exfoliants for a few days before using the kit to avoid irritating the surrounding skin, and remember:

  • It’s normal to feel some heat or a tingling sensation when it’s applied
  • Do not leave it on for longer than six minutes
  • Wait at least four weeks before doing it again

This isn’t your average relaxer. Most common perm lotions on the market are alkaline based and have a high PH level. (Some still even use formaldehyde).

Elevate Brows uses ethanolamine thioglycolate to break down one bond of the hair (there are three within each hair follicle) to get the desired results without breaking down the entire protein.

I used my kit on November 8, and since it was Election Day, I figured why not demo it while making a reel and encouraging the folks to vote? We have to meet each other where we’re at, amiright?!

Beauty For All

The kit is very easy to use, which is the point - to make beauty accessible to all. My only caveat is to pay close attention to where the thickest area of your brow is, and be sure to not only start there, like the directions say, but focus the amount of lifting solution you use there as well.

And be sure to thoroughly use the lamination brush to identify areas that aren’t taking, so that you can add more solution to get the best results before that crucial first six minutes is up.

Again, all of this info is in the user-friendly directions. And be sure to snap a few selfies to share, because brows like these should belong to all of us!
