“The Cleaning Lady’s” Eva De Dominici Reveals the Vitamin C Serum That Makes a Visible Difference in her Skin
The Argentinian actress also shares her favorite mascara, foundation, and soothing lip treatment.
With her return as a now series regular in season two of the critically acclaimed FOX drama, The Cleaning Lady, Buenos Aires-born actress Eva De Dominici continues to light up the screen with her high-wattage talent and beauty.
Here, the rising star, who began her acting career at the early age of eight, shares her coveted beauty secrets with Beautytap…
B: Were you surprised by your character Nadia’s popularity on The Cleaning Lady? I’m thinking you always knew there was more to this role than meets the eye.
EDD: I remember when I first got the audition - my agents mentioned that it was a very small character, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to read the script. And I loved the pilot. My character added something of a different color within the whole story. There was the illness of the child, there was the mafia, and there were all these dark worlds. But then Nadia appeared in the world, and she really added a different color.
B: It seems like the role was just meant to be.
EDD: Yes. A great surprise was that the series was based on an Argentinian project, and I am Argentinian. The character wasn't written Argentinian. She was originally written as a Russian girl. So, everything seemed very magical. My character started to grow more and for this second season they wanted to bring me back as a series regular - another great surprise.
B: I also think it's wonderful that she's not the "mafia wife" stereotype. Nadia is a very strong character and her husband Arman Morales played by Adan Canto seems to like a strong woman. Did you bring that side of her or did the writers?
EDD: I think the writers found an interesting dynamic between Nadia and Arman. There's diversity on and off screen, and everyone contributes. I never played Nadia as a let's say, "trophy wife.” She is a very smart woman, but the writer's decision was not putting her in a role that just supports the man...no. It is actually very interesting that Arman likes strong and powerful women.
B: That seems true for Thony's character too, yes?
EDD: Nadia and Thony (played by actress Elodie Yung) are very different, but they have something in common. They take control of situations. They make decisions. They are smart in their different ways and yes, they are not women who just support men. This is smart coming from the writers because we've already seen a lot of those stereotypes and don't need to see that anymore.
B: Do you connect with your character Nadia on some level?
EDD: I really fight for the things I believe in, so yes, I can definitely connect with Nadia in that way. We're very different though. She's much more fun than I am (laughs). I have a boring life compared to her.
B: Well, you hide it well! Many of the other characters you've portrayed in the past have not been too concerned with designer fashions and makeup. Are you enjoying getting to play around with Nadia's style on this show?
EDD: I love playing with makeup and I think Nadia has that freedom, unlike the other characters I’ve played. With Nadia, I think it gives her a certain confidence when she goes out into the world.
B: Some of the looks you have on the show, as your makeup artist Lisa Hill has stated are, "scream sexy badass boss babe!" What are some of the tricks you both use to convey her strength? Do looks matter to Nadia?
EDD: It’s a combination of the wardrobe, hair, and makeup. Her looks are one of her most important things. This is something very important to her because it's just her personality. What Lisa Hill does is very creative. But even though Nadia wears makeup and she’s a character who loves her hair, makeup, wardrobe, and nails, we don't go to the extremes because they still want her to look a bit natural.
B: What are your on-set makeup secrets for creating her look?
EDD: What I always talk with Lisa about, and she agrees with, is that I don't want a lot of foundation. She uses Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation as it doesn't hide my skin. I want people to see my freckles. I don’t want to be all covered up.
B: I understand that your eyes are Lisa's favorite and the most fun to play with. How great that she is always experimenting and looking for eyeshadows like the Viseart Paris Petit Pro Palette to emphasize your beautiful features whether she's doing a soft vulnerable shimmer, a dramatic halo, cut crease, high fashion smokey eye, or a cat eye.
EDD: Yes, we play a little bit with the shadows, and I love creating a cat eye look. For Nadia, it’s an interesting look because she is like a feline.
B: Beauty is power, and I've loved some of Nadia’s bold lip color choices and dark smokey eyes in some of the scenes. Is there a deep red lipstick that I know Lisa is just waiting for the right time to use? Perhaps in an upcoming scene for Nadia while having that distracting edge in a heated argument with the man in her life? Is there a color you are looking forward to using or already love to use?
EDD: We use one by Armani and it’s in the brown tones. In general, I like brown tones for cheeks and lips. They’re nice for olive skin.
I don't want to spoil anything, but when Nadia has a shift in her decisions and when she’s trying to make an impression, we create makeup looks for those moments.
B: I've noticed you use a lip liner too, and Lisa noted that she often uses a gorgeous red lip pencil by Armani.
EDD: Because I have a large mouth, we always make sure to do liner.
B: I've seen you do some online beauty tutorials on your everyday makeup techniques, and they are fabulous. Did you learn this early on in your modeling career?
EDD: I've been working since I was a little kid, so I must have learned something, but it takes time. For every day, I'm very classic when it comes to makeup and wardrobe. Most of the time I just wear black or white and then my basic make up, if I have to go to a dinner or something, is very simple.
B: You are on location a lot, and the show takes place in Las Vegas, but you are actually shooting in New Mexico where it is very dry. Do you like to bring your own skin care regime with you while you are on location?
EDD: I always make sure that I have my skin moisturized because here in Albuquerque, it's less humid than in Buenos Aires where I come from, and my skin has changed a lot - it's drier. I use La Mer Moisturizing Cream. It's a classic and I love the quality. I like putting certain moisturizers inside the fridge so they’re cold and fresh too.
Then I use La Roche Posay 10% Pure Vitamin C Serum a lot because I can really see the difference.
I also like La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral Zinc Oxide Sunscreen SPF 50.
B: What lip colors do you like to wear at home?
EDD: Always the brownish colors with lip liners. I use Vaseline every day because my lips get really, really dry and I also like Aquaphor Lip Repair.
I just use a little bit of foundation and some mascara, along with some setting spray. For mascara I use Lancome Le 8 Hypnose Mascara. It’s really black and I love it.
B: Your 'every day' seems to be pretty great so far, as you've already been nominated and won awards for your work in Latin America and now starring in The Cleaning Lady. Which other roles are you looking forward to in the future?
EDD: I would like to be part of a story around mental illness. I have people in my family who have mental illness, and this is something that has always called my attention. I would love to really go deep into that world.
B: And with all of the great cat eyes you are creating, maybe you could play Cat Woman too?
EDD: (Laughs). Yes, I'll take that as well! The superhero world has always caught my attention. I love eclectic themes and going into really different worlds.
B: Thank you for allowing Beautytap into your world and for sharing your insights and beauty secrets with us.
