I know we talk a lot about the efficacy of clean beauty, but here is where I point out that humans have used plants as medicine for 60,000 years, so I think botanicals have pretty much proven themselves by now. 

Another thing that gets a lot of hype is an EWG Verification. And, W3LL PEOPLE has more than 40 products bearing this coveted label. So, what exactly does EWG Verified mean?  

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has been tracking chemical safety since 1993. When products are verified by them, it means they must follow strident ingredient, manufacturing, and labeling guidelines; submit to random testing; and report any problems or adverse effects to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and to EWG. 

Bottom line: you can trust the products bearing that green circular seal.

 Juice Cleanse Soothing Aloe Face Cleanser

Could there be a better name for a product to wash your face? 

When it comes to cleansers, I love me some suds. This clear, gentle gel works into an excellent foam – you only need about a dime’s worth – smells faintly of botanical rose and leaves my face free of makeup, delightfully clean and soothed. Ideal for all skin types, it’s formulated with calming aloe juice, which is high in vitamin C; anti-inflammatory geranium flower oil; and broccoli seed oil, which is full of Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids - turns out, these beauties are powerful hydrators that don’t clog your pores!  A solid performer, this is the type of cleansing gem you’ll be happy using year-round. 

 Plant Powderfoliant Renewing Charcoal Exfoliating Powder

I know it says I can use this one every day, but I decided to keep it to twice a week, because I can’t be trusted. That said, my skin felt SO soft after using this powder-based, water-activated exfoliator, I might just change my mind. 

Infused with rejuvenating green tea, purifying charcoal, oil absorbing kaolin clay and one of my favorite power products – lactic acid – the powder turns to lather once you add water. And even with the inclusion of the lactic acid, there is zero discomfort massaging it into your skin. My only caution is to be very careful when shaking that small amount into your palm, because I made a mess the first time and ended up scooping it off the counter, so I didn’t waste any of this precious powder. 

Fresh Dew Snow Mushroom Gel-Cream Moisturizer

This lightweight gel-cream moisturizer has a little bit of that lovely rose scent and delivers plumping hydration that makes my skin dewy without being sticky and, most importantly for me, it’s non-comedogenic – in other words, it won’t clog those pores. 

Snow Mushroom extract, or tremella fuciformis, is intensely hydrating while also protecting against free-radical damage, which means fewer wrinkles and fine lines and a more even skin tone. Broccoli seed oil brings those fatty acids to our faces, and this time they’re backed up with two beauty industry stars – hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for a one two punch of soothing hydration and brightening power. 

Revitalizing Dew Snow Mushroom Eye Gel-Cream

I was in my thirties the first time a friend asked if I used eye cream. When I told her I didn’t, she very kindly told me that I should. What she was trying to say was that my California lifestyle was taking its toll on the delicate skin around my peepers. My eyes are super sensitive, so I have to be really careful with what I use or I end up looking like Charlie Sheen in the police station at the end of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

This gel-based eye cream is infused with snow mushroom, aloe vera and niacinamide; is light but emollient; has no scent and doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. And after hours of sitting staring at my computer screen, my eyes still look fresh. Quite a feat!

 Plant Elixir Replenishing Botanical Facial Oil

As a life-long acne sufferer, it took me a while to get used to the idea of putting more oil on my face. I finally got over myself, though, because my skin is so darn thirsty. 

This formulation includes jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils to maintain the skin’s moisture balance; conditioning chia seed oil; avocado oil to nourish the skin, and my favorite – rosehip seed oil – which contains acne-fighting ingredients like linoleic acid and retinoids. 

I have to say, this elixir might be my favorite product in the line. It has that hint of rose scent, absorbs easily into my skin and soothes the irritated edges of my winter blown nose and chapped lips. I’ve been mixing a few drops into my primer and the combo leaves me glowing. 

I am the first to admit that I tend to go overboard with my skincare, so I’m often red, dry and over exfoliated. Using W3LL PEOPLE for a couple of weeks has been a welcome reprieve. 

There is a noticeable difference and improvement in the tone and texture of my skin. And the clean formulations and gentle botanical scents are the best way to begin and end my days.
