Sparkling sequins, princess pinks, brooches, and hair buns were some of the buzziest trends of the night.

Red Carpet Royalty
First time nominee, Elle Fanning set a regal tone as she paid homage to her Emmy nominated portrayal of Catherine The Great in the Hulu series, The Great with a vintage look inspired by 1950's starlets. She explained to E!'s hosts how costumers, Sharon Long and Catherine Shaw hand made the Edith Head inspired creation. The black gown with pink lining was accentuated by Fanning’s curled, vintage hairstyle and thick black mascara. In other words, glamour personified.
Last year's winner, Jean Smart returned to the Emmys on the eve of her 71st birthday to continue her Lead Actress in a Comedy Series reign with a second win for her role in HBO's Hacks and graced the red carpet in an off the shoulder Christian Siriano gown that she reportedly considered wearing the year prior.
Many of the kings of fashion were called upon to outfit nominees including Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey in a mint-green Christian Siriano tulle gown, Dolce & Gabbana were behind Angela Bassett's custom draped yellow dress, Euphoria and The White Lotus star, Sydney Sweeney wore a silver embroidered gown with bustle by Oscar de la Renta, and Squid Game's HoYeon Jung donned a tweed-inspired dress, headband and jewelry by Louis Vuitton.

Back in Black
In one of the most dramatic moments of the night, Zendaya made history as the youngest two-time Emmy winner in the Best Actress Drama Series category for her portrayal as Rue Bennett in Euphoria. It was clear she also was winning the Drama category on the red carpet as she set the night ablaze in a strapless Versace couture gown proving that the black dress doesn't have to be 'little' anymore.
It was clear that black was back as a wave of nominees and presenters embraced the traditional color. Host Kenan Thompson opened the show with a black suit, shirt and tie ensemble and Ted Lasso star Will Poulter also followed 'suit' along with SNL's Kate McKinnon, both opting for black suits.
Other stars embracing black included Juno Temple styled by Erin Walsh in Tom Ford, Desi Lydic in vintage Roberto Cavalli via Shrimpton Couture, Kristen Schaal, Chandra Wilson, and Hannah Einbinder.
And two of the most touching moments at the 74th Emmys also featured black gowns. Selma Blair's surprise appearance to present Outstanding Drama Series moved the crowd to a standing ovation and Sheryl Lee Ralph's acceptance speech brought cheers of support and jubilation from the entire audience for her first ever Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy win for Abbott Elementary in her Brandon Blackwood dress with orange lining.

White Knights
Although there were plenty of the traditional tuxedo looks, the men pushed the fashion envelope a bit further this year with the trend of summer whites and creme. Nicholas Braun of Succession appeared in white pants, jacket and shirt by Dior while opting for no tie. Andrew Garfield went tieless as well in his white Zegna formal suit, Seth Rogen looked dashing in his creme Brunello Cucinelli tuxedo complete with cummerbund, and John Legend in a Gucci creme double breasted tux with black shoes and big bow tie. Even Pete Davidson opted for cool white shades.
The women also embraced white. Kerry Washington's floral gown with white train, Ozark's Laura Linney looked statuesque in her Christian Siriano flounce collar and ruffle lined gown, Selena Gomez in her formal beaded white Celine gown with sleek hair and drop earrings, and Issa Rae in Sergio Hudson.
And all hail the Empress of Television herself, Oprah Winfrey as she stepped out in a white double-breasted, floor length blazer dress to deliver the first award of the evening.

Men’s Brooches and Pins
Another trend that popped were brooches and pins. More than half a dozen of the male nominees went for that extra sparkle.
Luke Kirby of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel looked marvelous himself wearing a stately art deco brooch with his classic tux. Dopesick's Will Poulter had the biggest statement piece with a sparkling palm and dangling diamonds. Trevor Noah dressed up his Gucci look with an art deco style pin and Peter Sarsgaard donned a serpent shaped brooch.
Succession's Nicholas Braun also stepped out with sparkling pins on his shirt collar, DJ Zedd wore a pin on his shinny purple Dolce & Gabbana tux and Karamo Brown pinned a lovely fabric flower to his suit, as did Adam Scott.

The Skin Trade
Although it was a hot day in Hollywood only one male was brave enough to follow the sexy trend set by Shawn Mendes at the Met Gala and Little Nas at the VMA's. Jerrod Carmichael, who took home his first Emmy win for his HBO special Rothaniel, wore Diddy's white fur coat but decided to use his personal stylist, Mother Nature and go shirtless.
Julia Garner's Gucci gown featured a diamond shape exposed belly and we saw lots of dresses with slits or short baby doll skirts to show off a sea of toned legs.

Buns Galore
Perhaps it was the scorching heat, but it was clear that one of the biggest hair trends of the night was pulling hair up, up and away. Yes, hairstyles were lifted to new heights.
Kerry Washington's Elie Saab 80's throwback included a bun and black tights. Robin Thede, nominated for A Black Lady Sketch Show, arrived in a beautiful blue spaghetti strap dress with a top bun. And Selena Gomez pulled her hair back with an elegant bun for her stage appearance in a beaded Celine.

Perfect Ponytails
Another buzzy hair trend was the ponytail – and leave it to Oprah to inspire us to add it to our list of favorite things! Sheryl Lee Ralph also embraced the look for her big moment, but she took it one step further with rhinestone hair gems styled by Moira Frazier. Even her eyes sparkled with gems.
And Laverne Cox, who was hosting E!'s Red Carpet coverage this year, was a crowd pleaser dressed in an homage to Madonna and Jean Paul Gautier in an 80's inspired creation complete with cone bra, black tights, and, yes, a high ponytail.

Pretty in Pink
Perhaps Barbie is already inspiring trends before the upcoming film release, but pink seemed to be the color of the night. From Connie Britton's pink Monique Lhuillier gown with lipstick to match to Molly Shannon’s hot pink Christian Siriano number, we had no choice but to surrender to this sweet shade.
Ayo Edebiri delighted in a pink cape and floral Giambattista Valli dress and Kaley Cuoco, styled by Brad Goreski, dazzled in Dolce & Gabbana's multi-pink floral high-low gown that showed off her award-winning gams.
On a lighter note, Keeley Hawes looked lovely in her tulle and puff sleeves as did Natalie Zea in her spaghetti strap with sequined floral number, and Rosario Dawson, styled by Jason Rembert, in a satin pink Christian Siriano gown with corset and tulle.
One of the highlights was the Dolce & Gabbana custom gown made for Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham. Her princess inspired soft blush strapless dress with floral corset and tulle skirt made her the belle of the ball. Waddingham revealed that she left her glass slippers at home for more sensible sparkling sneakers to dance the night away.

Sequins
We aren't talking about your grandmother's oversized sequin blouses here! The Dropout’s Amanda Seyfried, styled by Elizabeth Stewart, looked elegant in her light lavender sequin dress by Armani Privé. And Reese Witherspoon in a deep blue sequin Armani Privé was mesmerizing.
Unique sequin colors were spotted on Christina Ricci in floor length Fendi Couture, Lily James in Versace’s silver and copper tint, and Sandra Oh in Rodarte’s purple-blue sequin pant suit.
But the sequin scene stealer of the night was Jennifer Coolidge who embraced her "bloated" self as she transformed into a dancing mermaid in her fitted green sequin gown while accepting her Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series award for The White Lotus.

Red Carpet Gold

It was only fitting that glorious Lizzo found a way to show off her legs and decolletage through a sea of red tulle, ruffle and train. Nominated for six Emmy's for Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls." Her infectious "Go Big...or Go Home!" attitude was on full display and this dynamo won her first Emmy award gold as a producer.
It's "About Damn Time!"
