It’s Barbie’s world and we’re just living in it, as evidenced by these coveted Barbie-inspired beauty collections.
Just like the song declares - I’m a Barbie Girl, in the Barbie world, and that world is exponentially bigger since the premiere of Greta Gerwig’s worldwide smash Barbie movie. Read on to see how your favorite magnificent Malibu maven is working her way into your beauty routine.
You would have to be literally living on another planet (heck, let’s go as far as to say residing in a different solar system) to have escaped the buzz surrounding the new Barbie movie. Unless you are Astronaut Barbie, that is, but I digress. I have been anxiously anticipating the penultimate chick flick for months now, and it is finally here (insert extended, high-pitched squeal here).
The cast is a who’s who of superstars we all know and love: Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, and of course, Ken (I mean, Ryan Gosling…the two are basically interchangeable at this point). Beautytap even got the scoop around the looks of the stars on the pink carpet (more on that later).
Think Pink
Barbiecore was truly present and accounted for in the pink carpet looks during the slew of international premieres. Stylists outdid themselves in terms of recreating and reinterpreting Barbie’s classic outfits, transforming them into modern day looks; case in point, Margot Robbie and her stylist, Andrew Mukamal. You will get a solid dose of the pink parade (in addition to hilarious banter) by watching Amelia Dimoldenberg’s pink carpet coverage of the London premiere (where she herself recreated the TV Anchor Barbie silhouette to a T).
With that, my friends, the stars of what is the hottest movie of the summer are important and relevant in our world, but let’s talk about the buzz around Barbie-adjacent products and partnerships that has been blowing up for months. While not all these products are actual collabs with the pink princess, “Barbie-Inspired” is truly a thing and present in all these swoon-worthy products.
Are you ready to dive in? C’mon Barbie, let’s go party!
Mermade Hair Barbie Blowout Kit
Ok, I’m probably showing my age, but do you remember Mermaid Barbie? Long flowy hair, iridescent outfit complete with mermaid fin? She was the coolest. There were multiple versions of her through the years, but one thing that stayed consistent was the long flowy voluminous hair.
Well, Mermade Hair knows an icon when they see it; probably because this Australian brand is iconic themselves, with their internet famous line of hair tools and accessories. Enter the Barbie Blowout Kit; complete with blow dry brush, satin zebra print scarf, plus hair gems and no-crease clips, this kit will get you a smooth, shiny big blowout in record time, with iconic volume like our girl Babs.
Homesick Barbie Candle
I don’t know about you, but one of my childhood dreams was to have a Barbie Dreamhouse of my very own as an adult; deluxe, modern furniture, pops of pink on the doors, windows and flower boxes, and of course, Ken as an optional (and easily removable) accessory. Fast forward to now; my Malibu dreamhouse is a one-bedroom apartment with a miniature balcony, but babies, I am still living in my California Barbie dream!
Homesick is giving you Malibu Dreamhouse vibes in their newest candle, transforming any living space into Barbie’s beautiful bespoke babe bungalow. Homesick went full girly glamour with the scent; big florals like rose, peony and jasmine accompany fresh lemon zest, followed by sandalwood to temper the sweetness. The combination gives visions of pink drinks at sunset, lounging on the deck with your girls, and you KNOW Barbie and her girls would be all about that.
OPI Barbie Nail Polish
We all know that Barbie is the OG when it comes to dolls, from back in the day when she originally sported her black and white maillot with matching cat eye sunnies. But when it comes to nail polish, OPI is our mani/pedi bestie for the restie; and the megabrand has developed polish colors for the Barbie movie that have us swooning. Of course, there are multiple pinks in the lineup; from the pastel shimmer of “Best Day Ever” to the deep saturated hot pink of “Hi Barbie,” Barbie’s signature color is represented in the collection.
OPI addressed that our girl B loves some sparkle too (“Every Night is Girl’s Night” makes the perfect glittery topcoat, but my favorite is the powder blue shimmer of “Yay Space”), as well as some unexpected shades like the bouncy, bright yellow of “Hello, Ken.” The colors are great on their own, but you can put together a magnificent manicure by pairing the brights on hands and toes, perfect for brunch with the babes, a night at home or a busy day at work-even if your job is….beach.
Chillhouse Babs in the Beach Chill Tips
We all know that Barbie is the original #GIRLBOSS. I mean, c’mon, girlfriend was a Registered Nurse, Chef, Park Ranger, Teacher, Animal Rescuer. So, when you are girlbossing as hard as our Babs, you don’t have much time to fuss with a manicure; so Chillhouse has got you covered. The ultimate go-to brand when it comes to an effortlessly fabulous manicure via press on tips, Chillhouse has partnered with Barbie to create Babs on the Beach tips. The iconic pink and orange swirls are a summertime favorite that are easy to apply and have maximum staying power. Basically, a must have for all the multi-hyphenates out there killing the game, just like our Babs.
Kora Organics Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum
I don’t know about you, but if there was a “Victoria’s Secret Model” Barbie, it would look a lot like Miranda Kerr, founder of Kora Organics. So, is it any surprise that our Barbie inspired product from the esteemed brand, the Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum, is housed in a bright pink container? Maybe not. But I can tell you that bright, glowy skin achieved by Margot Robbie and her resident girl gang in the movie can be found in this pink package. Energized (as all Kora Organics products are) with rose quartz and jam packed with antioxidants from superfruits like acerola cherry, orange and lemon peel, and Kakadu plum, this serum is a must have to keep skin looking bright and hydrated, giving you the perfect canvas for your next Barbie-inspired makeup look.
Neon Hippie
Now listen, Barbie may be old school in terms of her roots, but lil’ mama is progressive. I like to think of her as a gal who shops locally, believes that “love is love is love is love” and eats organic, which is why I think she would totally be down with healing mushrooms, therefore, down with Neon Hippie. Case in point, Neon Hippie’s Electric Flower Serum. At first glance, we KNOW this is Barbie’s jam from the bright punch of neon pink that is the substantial glass bottle housing this magical potion. But this serum is more than just a pretty pink face; Neon Hippie’s “7 shroom complex” utilizes some heavy hitting fungi for your face, imparting nourishing moisture, while also being a cheerleader for collagen production, and fighting those nasty free radicals. Barbie and her crew are definitely down for these types of mushrooms.
BeautyBlender
If there was a “Boss Babe Barbie” odds are it would be made in the image of BeautyBlender founder and world-renowned makeup artist, Rea Ann Silva. From the original and globally adored beauty sponge applicator to alluring makeup basics like foundation, skin tint and bronzers, BeautyBlender has been, like Barbie, killing the makeup game for over 20 years. So, it only makes sense that the beautiful stars of the Barbie movie, Arianna Greenblatt, and Alexandra Shipp, would trust their pink carpet looks to Beauty Blender and their glam squad, led by artist Jen Tioseco.
Arianna and Alexandra’s looks kicked off with a prepping of the skin thanks to Boost Firming & Smoothing Peptide Primer, creating the perfect palette for a glowy but chic look; Bounce Always On Radiant Skin Tint followed, to build a sheer, but flawless look. Ariana’s look included bronzer, highlighter and blush (Bounce Magic Fit Creamy Bronzer & Highlighter Duo and Bounce Liquid Whip Cream Blush), and while Alexandra’s look used the same steps in different colorways, Tioseco also utilized the Bounce Soft Focus Setting Powder to finish the look. Of course BeautyBlender’s OG Pink Makeup Sponge was on hand along with their Boost 4-in-1 Firming Peptide Spray; completely and totally Barbie approved!
NUDESTIX
In keeping with the spirit of Barbie and “Boss Babes,” it’s only right to shout out Nude Stix. Founded and run by a trio of mother-daughter #girlbosses, Nude Stix is clean, classic, easy color for fresh looks that highlight your true beauty; and what says true beauty more than our sweet Barbie? One of the most talked about looks on the Los Angeles pink carpet premiere belonged to Shay Mitchell; while her fit and flare mini dress by Shushu/Tong caught everyone’s eye, it was the flawless, classic makeup look that kept the gaze on her gorgeous face!
Makeup artist Diana Shin went all out with NUDESTIX, utilizing an assortment of their products to create the look; from the NUDESTIX Tinted Blur Foundation Stick to create a porcelain skin look, to the NUDESTIX Cream Concealer and Tinted Blur Foundation Stick to conceal and contour, she created a look that remained natural, while hinting at the influence of Barbiecore. The look was completed with NUDESTIX Nude Earth Eye Palette and Intense Matte Lip & Cheek in Sunkissed Pink, not to mention a kiss of sun from NUDESTIX’s newest release, Nudies Matte Bronze in Sunkissed. Malibu magic through and through, and we are absolutely here for it.
Have a blast creating your own little Barbiecore scenario from head to toe.
Think pink, babes!
