Gym + my headphones blaring music = my happy place. I’m 100% the kind of person who will literally turn around if I get to the gym and I left my headphones at home. I absolutely cannot work out without music. Music gets me going, ya know!
I’m not a super hardcore K-pop fan, but I have to admit, a lot of K-pop songs are perfect for working out. There’s just something super hype about bubblegum pop, mixed with a bit of EDM and a dash of hip-hop. I’d been going back and forth between a few K-pop workout playlists but finally decided to make my own on Spotify playlist (follow it here!)
I have a few favorite songs that really get me lit or some that just have special memories for me, so I thought I’d share them with you all!
Stretching and warm-up
“Bad Boy” by BIGBANG
This song has a special place in my heart. When I first found out I was going to be placed in a middle school for my first year teaching in Korea, I made sure to research K-pop songs and groups so I’d have some sort of connection with them. It paid off big time. My students were absolutely floored that I knew big K-pop groups and they instantly formed a bond with me. Win!
Anyway, this was the first K-pop song I was introduced to. I fell in love with T.O.P. (because HELLO THAT VOICE AND FACE). This song is perfect for stretching it out before you get into the heart pumpin’ stuff.
“Something New” by TaeYeon
This is such a smooth mid-tempo R&B song that is perfect for warming up and stretching my muscles before I work out. I’ve always been a fan of Girls Generation, so I gotta support with the solo performers, too!
Get that heart rate up
“Peek-a-Boo” by Red Velvet
I think I am actually literally obsessed with this song. Every time it comes on, I have to listen to it like three times in a row. It’s just so freaking catchy I cannot deal. It’s like the instant mood boost. There are definite times where I don’t feel like working out, but I just blast this song and BOOM. I’m ready.
“BOOMBAYAH” by Blackpink
AYEEEEE! Just listening to this song makes me want to move my hips and get my life. Like a lot of K-pop, it has hints of multiple genres. You get a little EDM, some hip-hop, and a catchy pop chorus. It’s the perfect song to hype me up before a ton of squats.
Heavy lift hype songs
“Hello Bitches” by CL

When I need to hype myself up for a big heavy lift, I play this song. I mean, CL really is one of the baddest bitches alive, and this song is the perfect song when I need to feel like I AM IT, OK?!
“I Am the Best” by 2NE1
If I were ever going to stan a K-pop group, I think it would be 2NE1. I know they aren’t together anymore, but they were always my absolute favorite. Just the title of this song gets me hype for my workout because honestly, during the hour and a half of my workout, I really am the best. This song will ALWAYS be a jam!
