Su:m37 Is a Luxe, Fermented Dream Come True For All Skin Types
If you’re looking to add some K-beauty luxury into your life, look no further than Su:m37, Korea’s first naturally fermented beauty line.
Looking to add a touch of luxury to your life? Want some products to place on your bathroom counter that are #shelfie ready? Well, look no further because Su:m37 is that girl.
You may have heard of Su:m37 from its most famous product: the amazing, legendary, often and now permanently discontinued (SOB!) Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick. It’s the K-beauty product that launched a revolution. It was a solid cleansing stick with actual rose petals in it. It was travel friendly, looked beautiful, smelled amazing, and even though multiple companies have tried to replicate the cleansing stick, they’ve all failed. RIP to a real legend.
But let’s rewind a bit. For a bit of background, Su:m37 is owned by the mega Korean conglomerate corporation LG. Su:m37 is one of the top five luxury beauty companies in Korea, with product prices ranging anywhere from $30 for the Time Energy Toner to $350 for the Losec Summa Elixir Cream. It’s Korea’s first naturally fermented cosmetics line. Natural is the key word here — each plant extract used in the company’s formulations is naturally fermented in various types of barrels for approximately three years.

So as you may have guessed, Su:m37 is all about fermentation. What makes fermented ingredients so special? Well, fermented ingredients in skincare have slightly smaller molecules than other types of ingredients and are thought to penetrate into the skin quicker and easier. In fact, the brand name itself is a take on fermentation, with sum (pronounced “soom”) being the Korean word for breath or respiration, and 37 being the temperature fermentation starts. The brand uses over 100 different fermented plant extracts in its formulations! Also, as an added bonus, all products are free of artificial fragrances, dyes, and synthetic preservatives. Woo-hoo!
There are eight different product lines available at Su:m37, each with a focus on a certain skin type or desired skin result. The most popular six are:
1. The Secret line:
The main product line that is good for all skin types with a heavy focus on fermented ingredients. Notable products are the Secret Essence that firms, brightens, hydrates, tones, and helps improve skin texture. The Secret Essence is the brand’s #1 best seller.
2. The White Award line:
If you’re after bright, flawless “glass skin,” the White Award line is where it’s at. This line is geared towards brightening the skin, with notable products like the Luminous Up-Toning Cream and the Bubble De-Mask designed to get rid of dead skin to reveal a bright and luminous glow.
3. The Water-full line:
If you’re team oily skin (heyyy!), then the Water-full line is going to be your new BFF. Each product is lightweight yet extremely hydrating, so you don’t have to worry about those clogged pores or getting too oily throughout the day. This line was my go-to while I lived in very hot, very humid Southeast Asia. The Water-full Rebalancing Lotion and Toner (which contain fermented bamboo sap, ooh lala) were my favorites.

4. The Time Energy line:
This product line is for those with rough, acne-prone skin. Each product in the line is said to improve texture and strengthen the “base” of your skin, basically providing a bit of a protective barrier.
5. The Flawless line:
If you really want to treat yourself and you’re feeling spendy, then the Flawless line is for you. It’s one of the most expensive line out of the bunch. It’s meant to revitalize and brighten dull, sad skin. The eye cream boasts an extra mega-dose of concentrated fermented extracts, perfect for brightening tired eyes.
6. The Skin Saver line:
The Skin Saver collection is the line of basic (not in a bad way) cleansers and makeup removers. There are all the options to choose from: cleansing cloths, oils, creams, gels, foam — you name it, they have it.
