Sure, hydrocolloidal acne patches are great for after you’ve extracted a pimple, but what about before your blemish gets that ugly? What if you could defuse that burgeoning pimple before it grows? Well, now you can.
During my first year in Korea, I taught at a middle school in kinda the middle of nowhere. And let me tell you, middle school students are the same everywhere. Prone to mood swings, lots of talking back … hormonal acne taking over their lives.
My 9th grader girls would come to class and, instead of paying attention to anything I had to say, would primp and curl and do their makeup. So like any cool English teacher, I turned it into a class topic. I learned how to curl bangs using a roller, the best type of oil blotting sheets to use, how to do a gradient lip look using a tint, and the wonderful world of acne patches.
My world was changed forever. Instead of letting a whitehead completely ruin my life, I could throw on a patch at night and wake up in the AM with it at least 50% smaller than before. What a concept! And since then, patches in all shapes and sizes have come out. But we were long overdue for an upgrade in the patch department.
And that’s where Care Bare Beauty Acne Patch comes in. Allow me to introduce you to the next generation of acne patches!
So a pimple patch is a pimple patch is a pimple patch, right? Not so fast. Care Bare’s patches are made with microneedling technology, so instead of the patch just sitting on your skin and covering the acne, all of the acne fighting ingredients are literally getting pushed into the affected spot. This means, you see results much faster.
You may have seen that I mentioned microneedles. Trust me, needles and I are not friends. But don’t worry, it’s not painful in the slightest.
Just what are those good-for-you, bad-for-acne ingredients? There’s some good ol’ BHA (in the form of salicylic acid) that helps to “unglue” all that debris clogging your pores, tea tree oil to help with inflammation, madecassoside to help calm the skin, hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump your skin, and a natural preservative in the form of lemon myrtle. If clean beauty is your thing, then these will definitely fit the bill.
I had the opportunity to try them out on a rogue little friend I got around my period (yes, even after all of my lifestyle changes, hormonal acne still finds a way to ruin my life). First thing you should know about these patches — they aren’t the kind you can wear during the day. They’re huge (which is great for me) and don’t really sit exactly flush with the skin. So I used them at night.
To use, I washed my face, dried it, and immediately put on the patch. Do not wait until the end of your routine to use it — your face needs to be completely dry for it to adhere properly. Then just do the rest of your routine around the patch, taking care to avoid the patch as much as you can.
My first impressions? This patch WILL. NOT. MOVE. Like, it feels like it’s almost suctioned to your skin. I’ve always had trouble getting patches to stick on, so these get an A+ in that category.
When I woke up the next morning, I carefully took off the patch and voilà. My whitehead was nearly gone … like a good 70% gone. It was manageable enough that I could cover it with some concealer and move on with my day. What a time! These patches get a Sheryll Rating of YES GIRL YOU NEED IMMEDIATELY. They are easy to use AND effective, and the microneedling technology is super cool.
